Sandals To Live In

Sandals are an endlessly versatile footwear basic, possibly even more so than sneakers. Without compromising comfort, they add a natural touch to a feminine as well as a minimalist day-to-day look. As long as the weather - and your pedicure - allow it, there's no reason to hold back on wearing open-toed shoes until early autumn.

Seen on the runway

'More is more', according to 3.1 Phillip Lim and Christian Wijnants, who drew attention to the lower part of their runway silhouettes by having models parade on robust flatform sandals in black or white leather, wide straps firmly wrapping foot and ankle. In sharp contrast with other designers such as Chloé, who once again took the graceful path and proved its love for revealing, dainty straps to finish off the ever so feminine summer attire. Isabel Marant, clearly the light of the summer party, spices things up by throwing metallics in the mix and creating a range of sandals in a supple wrapped metallic fabric, tied in a side knot for an ultra-casual feel.

Like Joseph, Stella McCartney introduced the brown textured leather sandal as the coolest kid in the class for spring/summer 2017. Customised with cut-outs, this long-known classic with a slightly masculine feel is now officially reinvented and ready to take your slouchy, laid-back summer look to a new high.

Translated to the streets

Now that the sneaker storm seems to have settled down, there's a new comfortable kid on the block: the sandal. Luckily for us, it's available in every shape and form and there's a suited pair for each style. To obtain a nearly-barefoot vibe perfectly fit for summer, wear your favourite printed maxi dress with a pair of flat strappy sandals. On a day-to-day basis, counter the coolness of your baggy, torn-up jeans by wearing a classic pair of rounded-strap, barely-there sandals. Looking to incorporate exposed footwear into a more experimental look, extend your contemporary aesthetic by adding a pair of minimalistic, matte black flatforms to your silhouette. A look that can easily be adopted during autumn by wearing a pair of socks underneath. Learn more on how to wear this autumnal footwear combination in our pre-fall lookbook
