The Style Decoded

Party-Proof Flats

Although heeled footwear is a safe bet during the party season, flat shoes can be equally sophisticated and luxurious. It all comes down to immaculate style combinations and a daring attitude. And as a bonus: they will have you on the dance floor all night.

Channel your inner modern-day Cinderella and opt for a glamorous pair of flat mules during these last, festive days of the year. Bold designs that feature embroidery or grand decorations are definitely appropriate for a party. You can style a red mule with an excessive bow on a midi-length dress or a tailored suit to give an unexpected twist to your party style. Even if the flat mule is not an evident choice in winter, you don't have to hold back during an indoor-party where your footwear can shine brightly. Lanvin showed a black pair with flower decorations topped off with a fishnet sock that added an extra layer to the look.

Monochrome flats

Playing with contrast might be one of the oldest styling tricks in the books but opposing a black dress with white brogue-style flats still works. Whether you are attending a family Christmas dinner or you are hitting the town with your best friends, this shoe style will take you places. But monochrome is of course not limited to black or white; there is a whole spectrum of colours to dive into. With pink flats or green loafers, you can also go a long way. With a uni-coloured shoe, the rest of your look can maximise hues, patterns and fabrics. Think feathers, satin, velvet, jewellery and other luxurious additions to your ensemble.

Statement footwear

A third way of staying grounded this party season is a more out-there approach to footwear. Consider a loafer covered with faux-fur to keep your dancing feet warm or on the complete opposite side of the spectrum a velvet sandal. The latter pairs perfectly with either a metallic party dress as well a pair of trousers in a delicate fabric. For AW17, Miu Miu designed sandals with an enormous crystal embellishment on the foot and a heel that reminds of the baroque age. Flats can be over the top for the upcoming days and take centre stage of your look. So silver ballerinas finished with a black strap? We say: why not. Your feet will be grateful the day after.
