The Rundown

Denim Days

Taking its name from the French ‘serge de Nîmes’, denim has easily worked its way into both on- and off-duty wardrobes. If there’s only one staple that makes its way onto your wish list this year, let it be this work of wonder.

Failsafe flair

Since the mid-nineteenth century, tried and trusted denim charmed its way into wardrobes worldwide. Be it a flared jean, playful culottes or a statement vest: the fabric proved versatile and timeless in equal measure. A classic blue set the process in motion, while tinted washes and coarse finishes added to the fabric’s aptitude of exuding a vintage flair that never looks outdated. With the fashion crowds redirecting its eye from athleisure to a more substantial fit, brands as Seafarer, J Brand and Current/Elliot focus almost solely on denim – leading us to believe that whatever is written in the hero fabric’s indigo-framed stars, it will only add to its cult status.

This season, we’re doubling up on denim in ways that will swiftly wipe Justin Timberlake and Britney Spears’ 2001 co-ord debacle from your memory. A-typical seems the way to go, with R13 and Alexander Wang presenting roughed-up finishes that are complemented by outsized details seen at Y/Project. Wear yours ton-sur-ton to tie in the look – and don’t forget a crisp-white tee.
