The Mood

The Silver Lining

While the days are becoming shorter, there is a firm desire for some sparkle. And let that well be a quality silver possesses. Designers felt inspired by the colour and implemented it in all shapes, forms and fabrics. For AW17, you will shine brightly.

As seen on the runway

The colour silver was seen throughout the collections of AW17, yet it always came in a different shape, form or fabric for designers to tell their own story with the hue. Off-White showed a hyper-cropped jacket with long sleeves in a textile that brings spaceships into mind. Virgil Abloh styled the outerwear with a feminine and light dress which emphasises the contrast between the textiles and makes this look out of this world. Sterling à la Saint Laurent comes in the form of boots. Slouchy boots with a silver sparkle that are clearly made for dancing the cold nights away this winter. The Paul & Joe brand reinvented itself with a silver lamé jumpsuit combined with velvet sneakers that stole the show during their AW17 presentation.

Translated to the streets

Embrace space and dare to opt for a statement piece that will make people's jaws drop. An oversized silver coat or an argent trenchcoat works well with a pair of classic jeans. Another way to incorporate a sterling accent into your look is a pointed boot. Worn under skirts or trousers, this style gives an edge and will complement your style perfectly. The texture could be glittery with sequins or more down-to-earth with a matte finish.

On a different styling note, sporting an argent handbag - or two - has grand potential this autumn. It will serve as the dose of glamour needed to fight the bleaker days. Pairing your accessories, which play the lead, with cosy knitwear could tone down your ensemble if necessary.
