The Mood

Faux Sure

There’s no better way to prepare for winter than bundling up in an abundance of faux fur. As we dare to brave the stone-cold weather, we develop a soft spot for the cosiest fabric out there.

Seen on the runway

The autumn/winter 17 runways showed a plethora of coats and accent pieces made of the fauxest of furs. This season, Miu Miu amazed with faux fur madness in head-to-toe fake fur silhouettes that could easily see you through winter. Miuccia Prada designed a striking palatial blue ensemble, complete with buckled headgear and a voluptuous coat that was cinched at the waist by a crystal-embellished belt. White patent brogues tippy-toed the look, providing an amiable clash of textures. At Dries Van Noten, a fuchsia pink coat was slung casually over the arms, leaving the neckline bare to showcase all of its embellished goodness. Paired with cropped velvet trousers and Courrèges-inspired white boots, it truly was the flashback we were waiting for. Patchwork was key to Sacai’s AW17 edit, including a parka-inspired style that featured different panels of faux fur, layered over a checked midi skirt. A contrasting orange collar brought a welcome vibrancy to the gloomy colour palette. Faith Connexion went all out, with a bright yellow hooded coat paired with black leather accessories and a monotone scarf, adding a toughed-up look to the sunny shade and the figure’s softness.

Translated to the streets

While this holiday’s mantra turns into ‘faux, faux, faux’, the fashion pack has been subtly flaunting the materials for months. It’s coats that expose the ultra-cosy fabric, be it in subtle yet ultra-warm detailing at the rim or in full-on ensembles. Faux fur hoods were spotted on bright checked coats, proving there’s no such thing as ‘too much’ when bundling up against the winter weather. A knee-length fitted style presented a more low-key approach to faux fur, with a bright yellow panel being the main focus of the look. Cropped cuts were seen in bombers and oversized jackets, making the material an ideal transitioning fabric when combining warmth and short lengths. A bolder approach was taken in a vivid blue number, proving it’s not easy to make a fashion faux pas when it comes to fake fur hitting the streets.
