Now and Forever Denim

When reminiscing about the origins of denim, one could never have foreseen the impact of the fabric on the manner people dress present-day. With fresh cuts, distinct shapes and novel blends, the indigo textile is ever more relevant for this autumn.

Seen on the runway

For the first time designed somewhat 140 years ago by Davis with fabrics from Levi Strauss, the jeans trousers have taken up a grand part of the contemporary feminine wardrobe. While thriving as a centrepiece in the 90’s, denim is reinstalling its power of versatility and wearability without depriving elegance and modernity.

During the shows of this autumn/winter 2017 season, Paul & Joe designed a dark blue denim ensemble with white pearl appliqués which gave the look the proper amount of class. Since directors are moving away from jeans that are skin-tight, a whole range of styles is emerging in the trousers department. Cropped, high-waist or loose-fit, a pair of denim is the epiphany of a garment that can be worn from daytime to night-time.  At the summon of ready-to-wear there is the APC brand, known for its raw denim and alluring white shirts, with a remarkable jean jacket that is worn as a phenomenal accessory over a trench coat. Christian Wijnants also delivered washed, baggy denim goods that he combined with oversized knits to keep warm this autumn.

Translated to the streets

Denim on denim or just a hint of the special cotton fabric, on the streets there is no way of avoiding the style. Pairing your favourite pair of denim trousers can go in a multitude of directions: styled with a crisp, tailored white blouse for a graceful effect, mixed with a printed T-shirt to obtain an edgy vibe. This season, opt for a darker hue of jeans for autumn and choose a wide-legged pair that you fold at the bottom or pair with a refined heeled shoe style. The full denim coat is also a safe bet for the upcoming times if you adore a polished yet eclectic look. Make sure to infuse this outerwear with a waist belt for the ultimate autumnal silhouette
