About the designer

Veronique Branquinho takes a cutting-edge approach to refined ready-to-wear. The Belgian designer started her eponymous label in 1997, upon graduating from the highly-acclaimed Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Antwerp. Her first womenswear collection in Paris was met with profound enthusiasm, as it landed her the VH1 Fashion Award for Best New Designer one year later. Branquinho briefly halted her label to work as artistic director for Delvaux, but relaunched the line in 2012. Her aesthetic is characterised by elegant garments that hug the figure, while tailored precision is an instantly recognisable trait that can be spotted throughout the seasons.

Collection autumn/winter 2017

Veronique Branquinho's AW17 collection probably went down as her last collection for now. The Belgian-based designer decided to temporally pause her line but not without swinging out with a stunning finale. The collection was mostly characterised by tailored silhouettes and a brown-hued Prince of Whales check pattern. Trouser suits were presented with cropped Bermuda shorts and tailored blazers. Long and short overalls featured dark navy and the recurring check print. The looks excelled in perfect layering by pairing pleated knee-length skirts with floor-grazing loose fit trousers, and crisp white balloon-sleeved dresses with checked Plus Fours-inspired trousers. A fresh aesthetic presented the combination of a light blue striped print with the earth-toned check pattern. Legs were encapsulated in white tights, for which Branquinho got inspired by an aged schoolboy-picture. Swarovski-embellished sheer tops softened the overall masculine suiting where the burgundy velvet trouser suit allowed for an exquisite highlight.
