About the designer

‘Fashions fade, style is eternal’ are memorable words spoken by the French designer Yves Saint Laurent. After working for Christian Dior at a very young age, he launched his own labels in 1961. His slightly masculine yet elegant designs were greatly adored by wealthy women at the time. By the eighties, he had become a fashion icon. After going through a few turbulent years, privately as well as professionally, Yves Saint Laurent became ill and passed away in 2008. Before as well as after his death the house has had several talented designers at the helm, including Tom Ford, Stefano Pilati and Hedi Slimane. In 2016, Hedi Slimane left the house and was replaced by the Belgian-Italian Anthony Vaccarello.

Collection spring/summer 2018

Saint Laurent’s creative director Anthony Vaccarello set the tone for his SS18 presentation with an urban jungle mood featuring khaki and black safari shorts paired with flowing loose-fitting blouses. The theme quickly developed into glistening silhouettes featuring leather shorts with glittery embellished jackets and shirts. Touches of velvet featuring shorts and dresses added to the festive feel. Off-white embroidered sheer tops set a romantic tone yet contained the label’s signature tough twist with high-waisted leather shorts showcasing elongating legs. As the models strutted near the end, balloon-shaped garments embodied an haute couture vibe with boxy satin mini dresses accentuated with lace, sequins and ostrich feathers.
