About the designer

‘Fashions fade, style is eternal’ are memorable words spoken by the French designer Yves Saint Laurent. After working for Christian Dior at a very young age, he launched his own labels in 1961. His slightly masculine yet elegant designs were greatly adored by wealthy women at the time. By the eighties, he had become a fashion icon. After going through a few turbulent years, privately as well as professionally, Yves Saint Laurent became ill and passed away in 2008. Before as well as after his death the house has had several talented designers at the helm, including Tom Ford, Stefano Pilati and Hedi Slimane. In 2016, Hedi Slimane left the house and was replaced by the Belgian-Italian Anthony Vaccarello.

Collection autumn/winter 2017

Vaccarello’s sophomore Saint Laurent collection revealed the new Italian-Belgian creative director’s ability to stay true to his own energetic, sensual style, without relinquishing the original Yves Saint Laurent DNA. Vaccarello is known for creating short and sexy party pieces – a perfect match for what Hedi Slimane set in motion for the contemporary Saint Laurent brand. Power shoulders and uber-short hemlines created supercharged silhouettes in shiny ruched black and brown leather and velvet that put emphasis on the long legs enveloped in slouchy boots. Mohair sweaters (dotted in rhinestones or kept virginal), turtleneck cable knit jumpers and mink and shearling jackets added softness, while corsage details laid on romance. This is a collection destined for dusk.
