About the designer

Japanese creative designer, Chitose Abe, worked for Comme des Garçons and Junya Watanabe several years before founding her own label Sacai in 1999. The birth of her daughter drove Abe to create experimental yet effortless wearable designs favoured by a wide range of various types of women. The fabrics are almost entirely created from scratch resulting in a unique aesthetic. Abe’s designs are the epitome of deconstruction, fusing different pieces into one intriguing silhouette and translating them into feminine yet sophisticated looks.

Collection spring/summer 2018

Chitose Abe is renowned for her exquisite patternmaking and daring combinations, two elements that were also present in Sacai’s SS18 collection. The show opened with parachute-inspired dresses featuring asymmetric silhouettes and interesting patchwork details. Jackets were designed to be worn two-ways, one possibility worn knotted at the front by the sleeves and held by two buckled shoulder straps. Patches of nylon, Glen plaid and army prints intertwined with white shirting and lace. Black patchwork dresses of lace panels were layered with an embellished knit cardigan and a sweater vest. Navy pinstripe fabrics alternated with floral dresses, trousers and zip neck tops, adding a sporty vibe to the looks. The exciting and unique deconstructed shapes breathed a fun and daring yet wearable aesthetic.
