About the designer
American designer Rick Owens experienced quite the vicissitudes of life during his teens, which is still noticeable in his expressive collections. Staunchly liberal and anti-conventional, Owens learnt his trade in LA, opened his first store and namesake brand on Hollywood Boulevard in 1994, and was soon picked up by key boutiques around the globe. His glamorous yet grungy silhouettes - fitted jackets with extra-long sleeves, droopy necklines and bias-cut, seamless cotton dresses and tanks - defined a significant stylistic current of the 2000s. Turning his hand to Brutalist-inspired furniture and objects as well, Owens has proven to be a polymath with an unmoving, distinctive vision.
